When Bad Things Happen to Good Dogs...

So, Friday night I came home from work all set to head out.
I had plans for a dinner with two of my girlfriends and I was in the kitchen putting a few things away and getting ready to change and go.
Scooter was in the living room, in his usual perch, the couch.
All of a sudden I heard a horrifically loud crash. I ran into the living room to find him lying in between the couch and the ottoman, LIFELESS.

This was one of THE scariest moments of my life.

What proceeded to happen the next 72 hours was just a huge nightmare. Totally could have been worse, and I'm thankful he's now "ok" -- just wanted to preface this story with the fact that HE IS ALIVE.

When I got to him, he was lying on the ground, and I couldn't tell if he was breathing. I proceeded to try to get him to "come to" and was rubbing his chest and even attempted doggie CPR (even though, i wasn't sure what i was really doing). I then realized I could feel a heart beat, and maybe he just got the wind knocked out of him when he was knocked unconscious. I felt him take a few shallow breaths, but he didn't come to, and his tongue was still hanging out of his mouth and eyes not moving. I would say he was unconscious for at least 10-15 minutes. SO SCARY.

I called my mom immediately screaming for her to get over to my house. She raced over and we ran him up to our local vet. By this time, he was sort of making these little noises, but still barely moving. They rushed him into Triage and after about a half hour came out and told me that he seemed stable but they recommended that we get him over to the 24-hr trauma hospital. Fortunately I take him there normally to see a dermatology specialist there, so we were familiar with the place.

Once we got there, they admitted him right away and decided he definitely needed to stay. They started him on meds so his brain wouldn't swell and put him in the ICU where he stayed for the next 3 days.

Day 1 - chillaxin in the padded crate in ICU
So happy Mommy came to visit

He hit a few bumps in the road with these "episodes" of, i guess for lack of a better word, fainting. Though, i'm not sure that's exactly accurate. He'd walk a few steps and just go down. As he gained his strength, they happened less and less, thank God. We haven't had an episode since Sunday morning. His blood pressure was on the high side over the weekend, so they started him on meds for that too. We go back next week to see if he needs to stay on this medication.

We were able to pick him up yesterday (monday) and boy was i ONE HAPPY GIRL! i pretty much spent the weekend in tears and barely ate anything because i was just so worried. I know there are animal lovers out there and people that consider their dogs their family. And that's totally me. This guy is my best friend in the world. And yes, my hubby is my best human friend. But this dog has been with me through marriages, a divorce, moving 7 times, good times, bad times, he keeps me company every night when my husband is at work. Just me and him, hanging out. And if he hadn't made it, well, let's just not talk about that.
Recovering at home

He was sooooo happy to come home yesterday and is sitting by my side as I type this. He's not 100% back to normal... he has this weird thing where his tongue now sticks out of his mouth, and i'm not sure if something happened with his vision/peripheral vision. So for now, this fur mommy is keeping a close close eye on my little guy and hopefully he will make a full recovery soon! Those of you who sent me well wishes on FB and Instagram, thank you and please continue to keep Scoots in your prayers! We appreciate it!

Confess Sesh...

Top o' the mornin' to ya's!

Scooter here, practicing my Irish accent, i mean, my mom puts me in these ridiculous shirts, so i gotta act the part, ya know?

well, now that i've confessed that i think my attire is atrocious 90% of the time, i might as well get a few other things off my back...

I confess...

that as payback for all the ridiculous outfits i have to wear, i like to cause trouble.
i can usually get away with every naughty thing i do because of my cute face and charming smile.
but not this time. ma dukes thought she was all funny and put me on blast on some website called dog-shaming.com. Hmpf. i think i'll make a website called human-shaming.com and put them up there! oh wait, i think that already exists -- its called the people of walmart or something.

oh! and check out the single most humiliating moment of my life.
are you ready for this? halloween 2012 aka "dress scooter like an a-hole day"

a monkey bellman? For realz? my mom must be smoking the good stuff to buy this for me.
i wanted to be something cool like a monster truck!
and instead i'm a f*cking monkey. with a stupid hat. kill. me. now.

anywho... moving on...

i confess, i love to sunbathe. cancer shmancer.
that sun feels glorious.
i'm gonna look like the snooki of the dog world. minus all the leopard print.

and my last confession... maybe the best yet...

i straight up laughed my furry butt off when this happened at the vet this week.

that's my brother... with a MUZZLE! lookin' all scurred...
i said, its just a shot, take it like a MAN!
but, nooo, he had to go and get his panties in a bunch...
and see, they went all hannibal lector on his ass!
Bwahahahahahaha.... suckaaaaa....

and don't let my mom tell you she didn't laugh.
cuz she did. hard.

anyway, i'm off to take a nap, or find a place to leave a fun present that mom won't find til its too late!

i got totally hooked and i need more -- SIR!

Fun Photo Fridays... Pup Edition

Linking up again this week with my girl Shannon over at Page Twenty-Two for Fun Photo Fridays. And THANK God Its FRIIIIIIIDAY!!! Even though this week was "short" it seemed way long. Agree?

Anyway, today i'm going back in time to the day i got my first precious little pup scooter. why, yes, i have an unhealthy obsession with my fur children. i may or may not cuddle them like babies, talk to them constantly and treat them like humans. But what can i say... how could you not be in love with this little face?

please ignore the "stoned" look in my eyes... i had just gotten home from a business trip and was exhausted... isn't he such a cute little pip squeaker!!!

we had just given him a bath since he arrived stinking to high hell...
yes we got him from a breeder in missouri, so he had arrived safe and sound at newark airport and we picked him up there... poor little guy was practically comatose from being hypoglycemic.
i immediately gave him some special sugar aka "yum yums" and he perked right up!
he's big enough now that i don't have to do that, but still gets excited when he hears the words yum yums. LOL

love my little boy!
link up and show me your favorite photo memories!

tonight we have dinner in staten italy island for my mother in laws 80th!
tomorrow we're off to visit G's friends and their kids and then to hang with my college bestie and her fam for HER bday... cross your fingers that the snow holds out for us!

also, need lots of prayers that G lands the dream job he applied for last week!

have a great weekend!

Deck the condo with boughs of holly!

This weekend we went to cut down our very first REAL christmas tree! The farm was literally around the corner from our development... and had THOUSANDS of trees! Who knew it was even there this whole time!

It was a fantastic day to be out and we brought Scooter along to help us find the perfect tree.

wearing his Bah Hum Bug Shirt!
Looking thru rows and rows and rows of trees... G says to me, "if you're an indecisive person, picking out a Christmas tree at this place is probably not a good idea!" and he was right... i felt like we were there for hours... which we were, 2 to be exact. But in the end, he found the perfect tree for our house!
Look ma, let's go this way!

And here it is!
G decided he would cut down the tree...
8' tall
Here he is attempting and then GIVING up cutting it and turning it over to the pro...

And finally getting it to fall... it was a lot of effort, the tree guy said it was "the hardest tree he's ever had to cut down"

We got it on the car...

Up 3 flights of stairs, and into the house....

Scooter stole Rudolph and wouldn't give him back!

And G set up the mantle... can we say queer eye for the straight guy!
Jets stocking - hubby; Hello Kitty stocking - wifey!

And i finally finished putting the tree together yesterday afternoon. After breaking out in a rash from the needles pricking my arms. Yup, allergic to the tree... which prompted this conversation:

Both my brother and G, such comedians...

At the end of the day I was able to relax and enjoy our first tree.

Now I just hope I can keep it alive til Christmas! Eek!

I'm trying to be good...

but i just can't control myself! Went to Kohl's on lunch break with C today... i was doing really good, til i spotted this:

via

Luckily this is the only thing i bought... i was able to restrain myself from further buying shit i don't really need. However, i do have a family BBQ on Saturday and this pretty sundress will look perfect with some brown flips and a braid of some sort! Oh and it was on sale from $50 (crazy, i would never have spent that much) down to $35. Just gotta go home and try it on and see if it fits...

My budget is usually not so tight that i can't afford to spend $35 on a dress. i usually end up buying tons of random crap during the week. However, next month dad is turning 70 and we're having a surprise dinner party for him, and i have to help foot the bill. ah yes, the joys of being an adult with a better job than the rents... but you only turn 70 once, right? so i want to go all out.

i also calculated how much its costing me to have doubled scooter's dosage of allergy pills. $35 - A WEEK. so that's $140 a month. for dog medicine. just shoot me. i'm now attempting message #3 for the vet to see what she says about the dosage he's on... long story short, we upped the dosage, its working great, and i'd like to switch him from two 10-mg pills to one 25-mg pill. just waiting for the ok from her. which would drop the price to $80 a month though i found a generic, so if she approves that it will be like $5 a month which would be a godsend on my wallet.

so because of that, im just trying to watch my wallet... How good are you at refraining from spending when you're on a tight budget?

What I'm Loving...

Welcome to my first edition of...
Link up here!

I'm Loving... that i bought my BF this book to surprise him for our road trip! He's not a big reader, but since he's Jets obsessed, i know he'll be loving this!
via bn.com

I may or may not have also picked up this book for myself.... no shame. just marched right over to the "teen" section like my ish didn't stink.

I'm Loving... this awesome weather we're having! Though today there is a "heat advisory", i'll take that ANY DAY over the cold, snowy, icy weather we had this winter.

I'm Loving... these sunglasses that have been on non-stop! So glad i splurged and got them in Miami last year...

I'm Loving... free stuff during my birthday month! Thank you Sephora! even though i have probably spent at least half my salary in your store this year

I'm Loving... that scooter was so exhausted the other night, he actually crawled into my friend's PURSE and fell asleep!

I'm Loving... the faceinhole app.... it lets you put your friends faces into totally ridiculous bodies/scenarios... examples below... warning: this is a very time consuming app. LOL!

What are some of the things YOU are loving today?
