Why All the Hate?

Last night a new Miss America was crowned.

You guys, she's drop-dead gorgeous, super smart, and she happens to be Indian. The first Miss America ever of Indian descent.

And then, the twitterverse blew up and out came all the haters...

seriously? This is America... full of people from EVERY race, color and creed.

and these comments? just show how truly ignorant people are.
i mean, she is INDIAN... she isn't even from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, or any other terrorist country!

I could go on, and show you guys more offensive comments, but I'm pretty sure you get the point.
As an Asian-American, I am completely offended by all these people.

This was her response to the controversy surrounding her heritage:

“I have to rise above that,” said Davuluri. “I always viewed myself as first and foremost American.”
She said she is delighted she is that the nearly century-old pageant sees beauty and talent of all kinds.
“I’m so happy this organization has embraced diversity,” she said. “I’m thankful there are children watching at home who can finally relate to a new Miss America.” [source]

I applaud her for having such grace and dignity when there are SO many haters out there. I guess at the end of the day, I just don't understand why all the hate? This is a beautiful, well-accomplished, SMART young woman, who now has the avenue to help change the world. And people are fixated on the fact that she is Indian. It's such a shame that we live in a world where things like being a "Teen Mom" are ok, but having an Indian Miss America are not.

Miss America, you rock! And I really hope you can take all the negative and turn it into positive. I really hope you can show all these ignorant pieces of shit out there that we can rise above the hate.

Jersey Strong.

Yesterday's news hit us hard, fast and furious. For those of my readers who are not from my state, this happened.

Fire broke out in Seaside Park, supposedly starting at the Kohrs Ice Cream place. The fire (fueled by yesterday's high winds) then spread four blocks over the next 9 hours, leaving a path of destruction all too reminiscent of Hurricane Sandy in its wake.
Funtown is done town. :(

These were the images we watched on our TVs, and saw on FB all night long.

Over 400 firefighters and first responders were at the scene and over 20 businesses have been lost/damaged. These were businesses that were still recovering/rebuilding from Sandy.
Just heartbreaking.

Most people recognize Seaside from the Jersey Shore cast... and yes, they have made it infamous.
But, there are also REAL people that live here, work here and go to the shore with their families to walk the boardwalk, enjoy the games and rides and spend time here.

And yes, my family was one of those families.
Being 40 minutes away, this was a great place to go on weekends during the summer.
I have many happy memories of being a kid and getting funnel cakes and Kohr's Creamsicle ice cream cones, playing games, riding the rides.

So for all those affected by this, my heart goes out to you.
Stay strong Jersey, we will rebuild again.

Friday Letters...

I know, its been a while, but I'm back!
Between life and work, and straight up laziness, and my world has been semi-bo-ring lately... you know how it is. Blogging slump.

Anywho, since I was up at 4:30am this morning... I guess my brain was so full of important ideas hogwash, I just couldn't fall back to sleep. So this crazy girl was thinking of what to blog about today.

Let's get started, shall we?

Dear Sam's Club: Let me start out by saying i heart your $4.99 rotisserie chickens. They are twice the size of the ones in the supermarket for half the price. And they are so tasty and ... i can't believe i'm "saying" this word that I hate... MOIST. However.... there was an issue with yesterday's chicken... apparently, it was missing a leg and a thigh! Now I don't know if someone ATE it and put it back (GROSS) or if maybe it accidentally fell off in the cooking/roasting process, but I got jipped! And I may or may not have been totally confused and thought I ate it without noticing, but no.

Dear NY Jets: We will be seeing you on Sunday! Please, please, for the love of God, don't suck as bad as they are predicting. I could really give two hoots, but do it for G. Do it because I have to hear about it for the next SIX months. I mean, though, after butt fumble, ya really can't get any worse, right?

Mark, WTF is up with the headband? Did the butt fumble affect your brain?
Clearly it did.

Dear A: Tomorrow is going to be SO hard. And though I hadn't seen you in a few years, I still can't fathom how you could be taken from this world so suddenly. Even though we weren't blood-related, you were still family because we grew up together. And I am still so so sad your future was cut short by a crazy brain aneurism. Heaven definitely got another angel. RIP.

Dear Important Documents: I know you're hiding somewhere... come out, come out, wherever you are! Apparently I'm SO organized that I put you in such a good spot that I have no idea where that is. I guess I'm tearing the house apart this week til I find you.

Dear $5 Savings Plan: Wow! I am impressed with you AND myself. This is a quick easy way of saving some extra cash. Pretty neat. Mama's saving for a new bag!

Happy weekend fluffer-nutters!

A Bargain Buy!

over the weekend, i had to run to the mall to get some watch batteries replaced. while i was there, i wanted to look for a new comforter for our bed, pick up a new anastasia eye brow pencil and a zoya pixie dust nail polish. i did all those things, and also came across these darling leopard print flats.

i was walking by the stores, when these babies caught my eye... in the window of Payless Shoes! Now, not to be a snob, but i'm not one to usually shop in that store. In the past, i've just found their shoes to be uncomfortable. So i kept walking..... i got about 200 ft away and thought to myself, "well maybe these will be different, after all they're squishy flats!" So i did an about face and went to try them on.

They. are. awesome.

And the best part? $19.99.
Ka-ching!

If you're looking for a perfect and comfy pair of flats for fall, Payless is the place to go. They also have them in a cute beige color too! Happy shopping!

Book Reviews: Cherrie Lynn Ross Siblings Series

Hey guys,
I know I've been MIA for a bit... i spent almost the entire weekend reading!

I started out on Friday afternoon with Sylvia Day's "Reflected in You" it's the 2nd in the Crossfire series. It was pretty good, definitely very similar to the 50 Shades series.

Once I was done with that, i moved on to this series...
These books totally sucked me in! I didn't realize at first that it was a series and ended up reading "Rock On" (which is book #2) before anything else. Once I realized there were books (and mini books) before it, i went back and went in order. The first book is actually a 20-page free PDF book on the author's website and is called "Barely Leashed (Ross Siblings 0.5)". It definitely helps set up the scene for what's to come in Unleashed (Ross Siblings 1). Though these books had lots of detail and what my mom calls "smut", I still really liked how the story lines unfolded. They had your classic boy meets girl, boy has to keep girl from getting away drama to them. Once I actually got into the books, i do admit i sort of skimmed over some of the sex scenes, honestly they just got a bit old after a while.

Anyway, they were fun and quick summer reads. The 4th book in this series comes out in December, so i'll definitely be picking it up!

Bonus, i also read these books on my iPad vs my Kindle. And I gotta say, it was super nice to have that bright light up screen on the iPad... now I'm seriously considering either a Kindle Fire or an iPad mini...

What's on your reading list for the summer?

Confessional Friday: Q&A

Happy Friday friends!
A few hours here at work then freedom!

Linking up with A Blonde Ambition for Confessional Friday!

Play along, all the cool kids are doing it...

1. My worst fashion offense of all time has to be when i got a perm.
And no you are not seeing a photo of how awful this looked. but asians should not get perms. at least not the kind that i got.

2. The most embarrassing song on my iPod is probably "Love Bug" by the Jonas Brothers.
Shhh, don't judge! It's a fun song!

3. The last white lie I told was to the hubs.

He asked if I had accepted a bank transfer he had sent me and I automatically said yes... and then realized it was still sitting in my inbox. oopsy!

4. The celebrity I most wish would disappear is LiLo aka Lindsay Lohan. She's just a train wreck that needs to STAY in rehab.

5. Sometimes, I wish I could go back to being 21.

6. My childhood crush was Leonardo DiCaprio when he was on Growing Pains...

7. I've never turned down a cupcake.

8. Worrying about something bad happening to Scooter makes me a nervous wreck.

Ever since his stroke, i constantly worry about the poor little guy. i can't help it, i'm like a crazy paranoid dog mom...

9. I'd rather watch paint dry than be on boring work conference calls.

10. Much like a train wreck, I can't turn away from watching Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

I just love that wacky, Southern, farting, fat family. They keep it real (too real) and it's just quality television. And come on, Sugar Bear is just the sweetest, proposing to Mama with his little $300 ring... even though they are probably rolling in the dough from all their endorsements, they are still really humble and honest.

Link up and have a great weekend!

Summer Shows

Good morning party peoples!
Thursday is finally here... for some reason i thought both Tuesday and Wednesday were Thursday, so disappointing.

Anyway just wanted to dish on some of my favorite summer shows today... even though it's torture to wait for Revenge, Grey's Anatomy, Hart of Dixie and Nashville to come back in the fall, there is more than enough TV to keep me occupied this summer!

Starting with....
{Mondays @10pm, ABC}
This has fast become one of my favorite shows... first of all who doesn't love Alyssa Milano. It's so great to see her back on TV again... the other 3 actresses i wasn't familiar with, but i am loving all the drama and different situations each of these women is in. And there are some major jaw-dropping moments that leave you wanting more!

{Sundays @10pm, Lifetime}
Another all woman cast, this show has a Latin flavor, but also some juicy drama! The series opens with a murder and the plot twists on this show are getting good! On a side note, the outfits that these "maids" wear... who cleans in that??

{Sundays @8pm, Style Network}
Sister, sister is back! All grown up with babies and husbands, i never thought i would love this show because i kinda thought they were annoying when they were young. BUT... i heart these girls... they are so real, so funny and entertaining...

{Sundays @8pm, Bravo}
Can we get a holla for some drama..... of course i have to tune in to watch these crazy bishes attack each other every week. and i am on Team Melissa all the way... i know neither of them are innocent, but Teresa is just bat shit cray cray. Not to mention super annoying.

And last but not least, my guilty pleasure...

{Wednesdays @9pm, TLC}
oh honey boo boo... simply put, you entertain me. with your bodily functions, babies with extra thumbs, and the fact that Pumpkin wanted to eat Pigzilla (a 4 pound pork sandwich) for her birthday. I mean, seriously guys... reality tv doesn't get better than this. #winning!

What shows are on your must-watch summer list?

Perfect Denim Vest

I bought this cute sundress the other day at Joyce Leslie...

the only problem is that we're not allowed to wear tank tops to work.
i know, i have a gazillion cardys i could wear, but is it just me or do you feel like a black cardigan wouldn't match with this dress?

and then i had a brilliant thought.

a denim vest.

and the search was on!

first stop, forever 21.
unfortunately the only thing i could find there was one that looked like it had gone thru a paper shredder. and being that "ripped" clothes are on the don't list for work attire, that option wasn't going to work for me.

second stop, my fav (and yours too) Tar-Jay

i don't know what it was, but something about this one just wasn't what i was picturing.
and by the way, it looks actually much better in this picture than it did in real life.

so onto the third stop.
because we all know when you get something like this in your head,
you're totally on a mission til you find what you're looking for.

Google Shopping

and BAM.

of all places, JC Penny... and $15 on sale?
Walk Run your ass to the store Shay and find that puppy!

The final look?

Perfect for work!

Have a great weekend!

Star Power

Linking up today to show off my BRIGHT nails
(my co-worker said she could see them from her car when she was driving in front of me the other day, that's how bright they are!)

I used the Red Carpet LED Gel Polish...
i'm not 100% sure, but i think the color is called Star Power.

So far I'm loving this color... though it did seem to change from the night i did it to the next morning. my only gripe is that it looks nothing like the color of the bottle. i think gel polishes are deceiving like that.

happy friday! i have a half day of work and then i'm off to the phillies game!
