The Small Things in Life

Well, its been a pretty craptastic (fantastically crappy) week so far...

  • AF came with a vengeance. There is not enough Midol in the world that can help my babymaker out...
  • I've been swamped at work and dealing with incompetent people...
  • And b!tch neighbor is starting up again... this time trying to SUE us for "slander" against her... this one, i'm still too crazy angry to even get into, but let's just say she truly went too far this time... lawyers are getting involved.
But despite the fact that i'm a cranky biznitch due to lack of sleep and the aforementioned (like that SAT word?)... sometimes its the small things in life that just really put a smile on my face and make me truly happy... like these stamps that i picked up today...

you know you awww'ed looking at them too... so hopefully i put a smile on your face today and cheers to tomorrow being Friday!

Married to... Social Media?

So, I sat down to dinner with my husband the other night. Nowhere fancy, just a local seafood joint. And, after we ordered, he popped out his phone, i popped out mine, and a good 15 minutes of complete silence followed while we both played games, checked our FB, and tweeted. i looked up and realized that here we are "trying to spend some 'quality time' together" and we're not talking, not laughing, and not interacting in any way with each other (oh wait, that's not true, we did have a Words With Friends game going on). So, i put my phone away (and yes, it was hard to do) and waited. and stared at him. and waited some more... until he realized he was the only one still playing on his phone (insert Stephanie Tanner - HOW RUDE!)... he put his phone down and we were finally able to have a great time together... laughing, talking, telling each other about our days... things that newlyweds should be doing!

Thinking about that little scene at dinner reminds me that so many people are obsessed with their phones and social media, not just us... an episode of the kardashian's where kim and kourtney are at lunch and kim doesn't realize that kourtney has left her there because she's too focused on tweeting... i just don't want to ever feel like either me or G are married to social media instead of each other. the irony in all this is that G only got his first smart phone this past october right after we got married.... i created a monster!!! subsequently, he's told me the three things he loves in life (in order) were me, the Jets and his iPhone! (and yes, he did say it was a very close toss up between the first two. sheesh.)

Today I read Jess' blog post about feeling like she's married to social media, and how this affects her and her relationships. And I decided I would link up and do a post about this because in a world where technology is making leaps and bounds daily (the NEW iPad just hit 3 million in sales a record for them)... where "texting and driving" is a ticketable offense (and should be)... where people can go onto websites to cheat on their significant others (disgusting)... social media is not going away anytime soon. In fact, i heard a news story the other day about how employers want access to potential employees Facebook pages (is this going too far? is this an invasion of privacy?)

Personally, I started out in college with AIM, went on to MySpace, graduated to Facebook, and now have a Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and this lil ol blog... and while i think social media can be a great tool for business and staying in touch, i can see how there can be so many different dangers of all these different social outlets.

We spend less time with each other and more time with the machines that are supposed to be "connecting" us... and its sooooo addictive (some polls show that people check their facebook EVERY 15 MINUTES!)  I realized this week, that playing around on my phone sometimes occupies the majority of my night! I started reading this week and it was so nice to not be playing iPhone games (sorry Draw Something friends, blame the Hunger Games) and while i know i'll be back to playing in full force soon, i'm really making a conscious effort to not "be married" to social media and to devote some of my time to other things i love. i think its good to "take breaks" sometimes and try to be less dependent on technology.

What are your thoughts on social media? This is such an interesting topic and one that is only going to be more prominent as more advances are made in this world.

3 Things

A short and quick post today, since i know i've been a bad blogger, i'm trying to post at least FEW times a week... so with that in mind, i'm linking up for:

{one}
i'm LOVING that i get to paint my nails with THESE tonight!

Picked up these spring colors (and a baby lips as you can see) at CVS the other morning, but i had JUST painted my nails. so since its time for a polish change, i'm SO excited to try these colors out!

{two}
i'm LOVING this book!
buy it here

i have to admit, i was skeptical at first. sci fi isn't really my cup of tea, but after hearing review after review after review about how this is a must-read, i figured i'd try to at least read the first one before the movie hits theaters. and so far, i'm hooked! i love BOTH peeta AND katniss so i'm already torn about what's to come!

{three}
i'm LOVING my sweet & funny husband.
poor quality iphone photo - you know thats standard for me!
now that he's on 2nd shift, he cooks dinner during the day when he's home and leaves me a yummy meal that i just need to reheat. not having to cook = glorious.

well that's all i got for ya today!
one more hour til lunch and some fresh gorgeous spring air!

What are YOU loving today?

Spring Wants...

With warmer weather that arrived this past weekend, i'm hoping spring decides to stick around (F that stupid groundhog!) And with bright colors and flip flops just around the corner, I'm definitely making a list of some swoon worthy items for my spring wardrobe.

After taking a look at my shoes from last year, i've noticed that they have seen some of their better days... as much as i'd really really really love a pair of these.... their price is just not house-saving friendly.
wanna buy these for me?

So I'm hoping i can get ma butt to Nordy's to try on (and buy) these instead... while they're still a bit more pricey than i normally would spend on ballet flats, i do get major use out of flats so i can justify.
the denim on the left is calling my name!

Thoughts? Debating getting black leather or denim... though the leopard is fun too...

While this next item may not scream out "spring",  i've been on the hunt for it for a while... so if i come across one i like, you can bet i'll be scooping it up! Perfect to wear on a cooler spring day or to pair with a t-shirt and a blazer...

Next on my want list is a chambray shirt... ever since i saw Lily's outfit posts with her chambray shirt, i've been looking for one. This one is a little pricey, but Ann Taylor is a good brand and i know it would be something i could keep in my closet for a long time.

The last thing that i've been wanting is a fun going out shirt... we're hitting up AC in a month for my cousin's birthday and i'd love to wear something like this...

What items are on your must-have list for spring?

Sorry i've been MIA lately... i've been lacking time & blog inspiration... :-)

What I've Been Up to...

Good Ev'ning Mateys!
Bet you've been wondering where I fell off the face of the earth to...
Life gets busy and this little blog here gets neglected...
So sorry, so sorry...

But I had a fabulous weekend, so let's start there, shall we?

Friday night was date night...
at... THE CIRCUS!
since neither G or I have been since we were kids, it was super fun!
We got a snow-cone (that cost $10!!) and my tongue turned freakishly blue!

we watched the clowns, the elephants, and a goat that walked a balance beam!
NONE of which i got any pictures of... LOL
well i got a really dark one of the elephants...

there were also acrobats, trapezes and guys on mini bikes riding in a steel cage.
oh and did i mention the 2 ghetto women that almost brawled in back of us?
(that's what you get for going to the circus in newark!)

saturday we had my cousin's 60th surprise party in queens...
so we trekked out to NY with my cousin and her bf...
it was a fun night...

hanging out with my cutie hubby!
my two best bishes...
sunday my bro and i took kadee to the dog park...
she had a ball...
though my car needs a good cleaning now from all the dirt she tracked in!

doesn't she look crazy happy?
later that night the fam hit up dinner at a cuban restaurant.
one word. YUM.

all in all a great fun-filled weekend.
and i promise to try to get some more blogging in this week!
what did YOU do this weekend?
