Why All the Hate?

Last night a new Miss America was crowned.

You guys, she's drop-dead gorgeous, super smart, and she happens to be Indian. The first Miss America ever of Indian descent.

And then, the twitterverse blew up and out came all the haters...

seriously? This is America... full of people from EVERY race, color and creed.

and these comments? just show how truly ignorant people are.
i mean, she is INDIAN... she isn't even from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, or any other terrorist country!

I could go on, and show you guys more offensive comments, but I'm pretty sure you get the point.
As an Asian-American, I am completely offended by all these people.

This was her response to the controversy surrounding her heritage:

“I have to rise above that,” said Davuluri. “I always viewed myself as first and foremost American.”
She said she is delighted she is that the nearly century-old pageant sees beauty and talent of all kinds.
“I’m so happy this organization has embraced diversity,” she said. “I’m thankful there are children watching at home who can finally relate to a new Miss America.” [source]

I applaud her for having such grace and dignity when there are SO many haters out there. I guess at the end of the day, I just don't understand why all the hate? This is a beautiful, well-accomplished, SMART young woman, who now has the avenue to help change the world. And people are fixated on the fact that she is Indian. It's such a shame that we live in a world where things like being a "Teen Mom" are ok, but having an Indian Miss America are not.

Miss America, you rock! And I really hope you can take all the negative and turn it into positive. I really hope you can show all these ignorant pieces of shit out there that we can rise above the hate.

Jersey Strong.

Yesterday's news hit us hard, fast and furious. For those of my readers who are not from my state, this happened.

Fire broke out in Seaside Park, supposedly starting at the Kohrs Ice Cream place. The fire (fueled by yesterday's high winds) then spread four blocks over the next 9 hours, leaving a path of destruction all too reminiscent of Hurricane Sandy in its wake.
Funtown is done town. :(

These were the images we watched on our TVs, and saw on FB all night long.

Over 400 firefighters and first responders were at the scene and over 20 businesses have been lost/damaged. These were businesses that were still recovering/rebuilding from Sandy.
Just heartbreaking.

Most people recognize Seaside from the Jersey Shore cast... and yes, they have made it infamous.
But, there are also REAL people that live here, work here and go to the shore with their families to walk the boardwalk, enjoy the games and rides and spend time here.

And yes, my family was one of those families.
Being 40 minutes away, this was a great place to go on weekends during the summer.
I have many happy memories of being a kid and getting funnel cakes and Kohr's Creamsicle ice cream cones, playing games, riding the rides.

So for all those affected by this, my heart goes out to you.
Stay strong Jersey, we will rebuild again.

Friday Letters...

I know, its been a while, but I'm back!
Between life and work, and straight up laziness, and my world has been semi-bo-ring lately... you know how it is. Blogging slump.

Anywho, since I was up at 4:30am this morning... I guess my brain was so full of important ideas hogwash, I just couldn't fall back to sleep. So this crazy girl was thinking of what to blog about today.

Let's get started, shall we?

Dear Sam's Club: Let me start out by saying i heart your $4.99 rotisserie chickens. They are twice the size of the ones in the supermarket for half the price. And they are so tasty and ... i can't believe i'm "saying" this word that I hate... MOIST. However.... there was an issue with yesterday's chicken... apparently, it was missing a leg and a thigh! Now I don't know if someone ATE it and put it back (GROSS) or if maybe it accidentally fell off in the cooking/roasting process, but I got jipped! And I may or may not have been totally confused and thought I ate it without noticing, but no.

Dear NY Jets: We will be seeing you on Sunday! Please, please, for the love of God, don't suck as bad as they are predicting. I could really give two hoots, but do it for G. Do it because I have to hear about it for the next SIX months. I mean, though, after butt fumble, ya really can't get any worse, right?

Mark, WTF is up with the headband? Did the butt fumble affect your brain?
Clearly it did.

Dear A: Tomorrow is going to be SO hard. And though I hadn't seen you in a few years, I still can't fathom how you could be taken from this world so suddenly. Even though we weren't blood-related, you were still family because we grew up together. And I am still so so sad your future was cut short by a crazy brain aneurism. Heaven definitely got another angel. RIP.

Dear Important Documents: I know you're hiding somewhere... come out, come out, wherever you are! Apparently I'm SO organized that I put you in such a good spot that I have no idea where that is. I guess I'm tearing the house apart this week til I find you.

Dear $5 Savings Plan: Wow! I am impressed with you AND myself. This is a quick easy way of saving some extra cash. Pretty neat. Mama's saving for a new bag!

Happy weekend fluffer-nutters!
